I’ve been trying to get MySQL Cluster adopted recently in work. When we identified a requirement to provide high availability, MySQL Cluster seem the logical choice considering the application we were looking at already runs on a MySQL platform. The other alternative presented was MS SQL Server, which is used for a lot of other projects. My plan is to go through the two alternatives over the next couple of entries and then compare them and then I’ll tell you the actual outcome of our investigations in work.

AJAX – Poster Boy of Web 2.0
I was just reading quite an interesting article over on ZDNet talking about how the author “hated” (and he did say hated) almost all browser based applications because the browser is not a good application container. He sees AJAX as something to overcome the inherent limitations of the browser, and he hasn’t seen anything done in AJAX that a good Java Applet couldn’t replicate.
Re-inventing the Wheel
As you may or may not have noticed, I’ve started using WordPress. I’ve spent this weekend converting my previous database over, and it seems to have worked relatively well. My main reason for doing this is to allow me to concentrate on some more fun projects. While writing my own blogging platform was fun and a good learning experience, I want to spend time doing other things that haven’t been done before. So that’s where we begin…
