Friday was a day off from work to go karting and boy did I need it. It’s been a stressful week and I needed the time away.
I went and picked Gareth up from Stratford and headed up to Middlesborough again for another kart race. The M1 was a total nightmare, as was the A1. Just made it in time to the circuit. First kart was a total nightmare too. It didn’t accelerate and more importantly, understeered all over the place.
Now, I hate understeer. My driving style is to turn in early and trail brake on turn in, to aid direction change. This gives me a problem with late apex corners, like the hairpin before the long straight at Warden Law. Still, it all works out ok the end. However, I do need a kart with good turn in. I can cope with oversteer easily using the educated right foot.
The replacement kart we had cured the understeer problem but still had no pickup compared to may other karts. Loads of people just accerated away down the straights, even when I got a better exit. Very frustrating.
Yesterday was quiet. Drove home from Rick’s (cheers for the floor again, I’ve never slept on so comfortable a carpet!) and then fell asleep for a while.
Lie in this morning, lovely home roast and the headed down to Bristol to visit Neal and dine at the wonderful Wagamama. Saw the GP first, incident packed, but as per usual none of them involved Michael Schumacher. Bit surprised nothing was done about him being alongside Rubens as they cross the line. Glad to hear Ralf is ok, but why oh why was he left sitting there in the car without attention for so long?
Vaccinations tomorrow for India, eep!
