Well, in the end, I made my decision, and I hope it’s the right one. I bought this. So that problem soughted. I know it doesn’t take AA batteries, but it’s got a good reputation for battery life, so if I get a spare battery I should be able to charge it enough. I hope anyway. Still need to get a huge CF card though.

In other news, my face has nearly finished peeling off, one of the less fun after-effects of spending all day in the glorious sunshine at Clay last week. That really was a brilliant day, I love that track so much more now they’ve removed the bumps. Pictures are available from the photos page too, take a look.

Now I’ve finally booked by trip to India, I need to write a huge checklist of things to do, such as get a Visa, get jabs, etc. One of the things I also have to do is get a digital camera to take with me. This presents I dilemma. Now I could get the camera I really fancy, the highly rated Canon Powershot G5. I think it’s got every feature I could ever need, and will take some amazing photos. However, it’s quite a bulky camera. Not huge, but still a reasonable size. Would I want to take such a thing all the way to India? It’s a pretty good price on that site too.

What I want is a camera that has lots of settings for me to play around with, lasts a long time on batteries, can take huge storage, uses standard AA batteries (because it’s unlikely I’ll be able to charge it up when I’m out there), is robust, can be used to just point and click if need be, and is less than ?500. Recommendations anyone?

Apparently, looking at the statistics for my site, some people have got here by searching for the term “ladies mud wrestling”. Which was nice.

So far this weekend I’ve been engaging in being random to see what happens. Such as the following exchange with a petrol station attendant -

Door opens, in walks a very sunburnt Alex and heads for the counter.

Alex: Hi, do you have an egg?

Attendant (who looks a little scared): Er, what, like a fried egg?

Alex: Yeah, do you have one?

Attendant: Over there (Colleague is holding up a box of 6)

Alex takes box and considers it for a moment. He looks up.

Alex: I only want one though.

The attendant is now looking a little more scared, but doesn’t say anything

Alex: ok… I’ll take them then, oh and a Mars bar and some Fanta.

Alex places the items on the counter

Which was all rather odd. Still, I’ve had a good couple of days, involving karting, drinking, Loaded 10th Anniversary Totty Trumps (somehow my hand contained Judge Dredd and Homer Simplson?!) (TM), photo taking etc. I’ll detail everything a bit more later on.

…you’re watching Win, Lose or Draw Late. You’d think they’d have the decency to fill it with a number of scantily clads girls, but no instead we get Paul Ross and Liza Tarbuck. Damn.

Favourite film of the year so far – Shaun of the Dead! Er, what other films have I seen this year? Hmm. Anyway. Ignore John’s comments on this site, it was brilliant. Shaun is your average 29 year old man who still acts like he is a student. I know I do that, whether I’m still doing that when I’m 29 I don’t know, but 29 seems like a cool age to be. Shaun sees the zombies (sorry, not zombies) as something that’s getting in the way of his normal routine. Shaun is a hero to all of those of us who wish we’d done more with are lives, but are reasonably happy with our lot. It drags a little bit in the middle, but on the whole it’s a gold star movie. Go see it.

Just had to write this down on here because it made me laugh so much. On the way to work today I went to overtake this women in a Golf GTI, accelerated past fine, loads of space on this reasonably straight piece of road. Over the crest of the hill coming the other way comes a Minibus. Now, I’ve pulled back onto my side of the road by this time, and about 10 seconds later I pass the Minibus. The driver of which, flashes his lights furiously and gives me the finger! Man how I laughed. Why he got pissed off I overtook someone before he got anywhere near me I don’t know.

Say we had a closing speed of 100mph, that means we were 580m apart when I first saw him, when I was alongside the Golf. Plenty of room. Funny weirdo, hahahahahaha.

Almost as funny as when an old lady gave me the finger when I waved at her to indicated a bus had crashed further up the road.

Right, I am down to see Shaun of the Dead at 8:45pm on Thursday evening. Can’t wait! You’re welcome to come Sio if you can get here by then, haha!

Just watched the fabulous program on Stephen Hawking on BBC 2. A couple of things stuck with me from watching it. In the middle-ish, he stays up all night proving why some paper he is reading is all wrong, doing the equations on the black board. I remember the days when I loved doing that sort of thing. Maths was one of my favourite subjects all the way though school. It’s something I missed through all of my degree (I only did about 3 Maths based modules, and did well on all of them), and I wish I could do some more in my spare time. Sad I know, but maybe you know what I mean.

The other thing that struct me was the location – Cambridge. I’ve never been, but it looks very similar to Oxford, of which I have various memories. It’s strange how things like that stir up feelings (while I was thinking about this, “Love Is Only A Feeling” by The Darkness came on iTunes. How odd.) While I would say I am ostensibly (I’ve been wanting to use that word all evening) over Fran, I’m not sure what I to think about my continuing habit of skipping songs that remind me of both good things and bad things. Sort something out soonish hopefully.

Life is too quiet, need some noise. Going to see Shaun of the Dead. Will be good.

You may remember a couple of years ago a movie came out called “A Perfect Storm”, and it was about the freak circumstances when all the ingredients were there to make an amazingly powerful storm. Now, this evening, I think I came close to the movie equivalent.

So this movie had Jackie Chan. Jackie is the man as far as I am concerned, the things he can do (and indeed, the injuries he’s had from watching the outtakes) are frankly amazing. This movie had kung fu. That goes without saying. It was about racing, even better. The only thing it was missing was some eye candy. Brilliant fun anyway.

The movie was Thunderbolt anyway, for those interested.
